What is Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient holistic therapy which involves applying pressure to the feet in order to help the recipient to move closer towards their own natural balance and consequently help them to achieve greatly improved health.

Reflexology works in many ways.

One of the most widely recognized ways, sometimes referred to as Zone Therapy, works on the principle that every part of the body is linked via the nervous system to a corresponding area (or zone) on the foot. Through sensitive and skillful application of pressure to a specific area of the foot, the corresponding part of the body can be activated to encourage increased activity and restore proper function.

Another way in which reflexology works, sometimes referred to as the Metamorphic Technique, is to do with the flow of internal energy through the body.  Sharing links with acupuncture, acupressure, Tai Chi and Qigong, this works on the principle of that a person’s internal energy travels through channels in the body know as meridians.  By applying pressure to the feet, blockages can be cleared from the meridians, allowing the recipient’s internal energy to flow more freely.  When this happens, the person’s restorative self-healing and re-balancing powers are increased, which naturally leads to improved health.

The hands and ears can also be used for reflexology, although foot reflexology is more commonly practiced.  The treatment is directly ‘hands on’ and the pressure is applied with specific techniques using mainly the thumbs and fore-fingers.

Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive, holistic therapy which works on many levels in order to help you to improve your health, achieve your latent potential and live a natural and healthy life.
